As a proud owner of Max Brooks zombie survival guide i can say "i am prepared".
This book gave me alot of new aspects of surviving the coming zombie infestation (still waiting!).
To be honest i think about different scenarios on daily basis, let it be at my works office or at the local mall, i almost always have some kind of plan B to either escape or fort myself to the rooftop of the mall (we all know how the mall fort works atleast untill the smart zombie gets in:)
Would be great to hear other peeps "plan B's" :)

I have the Survival Guide and World War Z, both fantastic books. I like how the entire focus is not on Guns as defense. I live in Canada and we don't have a lot of gun training up here, but I've always thought that against a massive zombie horde speed and stealth would be much more important anyway.
I live in a major city, so the odds of me surviving an outbreak are low. My best bet would be to ration my food and stay put, and develop a plan. I think once I got up the courage I would bring a blunt weapon and clear out my hall. Call out for survivors first though. If there are none then slowly break down each door on the floor for supplies and kill any infected along the way. It would be a long process, but I could do one apartment a day and that should keep my supplies up for several weeks. Eventually I would have to venture out, but at least by then things would have settled down a bit and maybe I will have met up with survivors by then. :)
This all assumes I've managed to get to my apartment or was in my apartment during the climax of the outbreak.

I am living in Finland and we have really strict gun laws so we dont have them laying around like in the states, so melee would be almost the only option here.
I think myself to be privileged to have 1 year of experience of military (each man is somewhat required to go trough the army in finland) and how to handle guns etc etc.
I do also live in quite large city next to helsinki which is finlands capital, so it would be quite deadly to stick around after the outbreak. I have thought about going for risky first day escape from my city. First to my uncles homestead, he has several weapons stashed because he hunts as a hobby, and the road to the place only takes an half an hour (no speed limits at outbreak!).
Last step would be bit harded since the way to my parents location at country side is more further and would take about 6hours, but it would be worth it when i get there. Really low population and long distances between people living there.
All this considering i would have a head start on everything and recognise the zombie threat at minute 1, and have my girlfriend at home with me at the same time so we could just insta split from the city we live in.
And gladly my younger brother (zombie survivalist aswell:) lives about 1 mile from me, so getting to same car at point zero wouldnt hopefully take too long.
Hopefully my text aint a mess, since english is my third language :)

Alright this a a general what i would do if i was in my local town. first i live in the south(which does not mean im a redneck or idiot unlike others who live here) so we have plenty of guns. im also assuming one of my best friends who i trust to have my back is home too. i call him and tell him i take whoever beside me and we goin to walmart. first unlike many people dont realize walmart actually has pull down doors and lock on all their entraces not sure if they are chain or tin but they can hold back the initaial onslaught. second i have a few srvivors which im sure i will have helping clear the store. then we fill every container in store with water. seeing as we will have a few days of electricity. (would prolly clear a spot to make a fire with a barrel on the tile if it was winter) after the store is sealed off i use the the shelves to make an iner sacntum with one entrance from a ladder coming from the roof. this will be to sleep in simply cause im not becoming zombie lunch. i would prolly use tarps and those big fence like container things to set up large resevevaurs on the roof for water. second i would gather a car or too and wait for a calm time to send a few men out to gather guns and lumber to help with building.(also i will have multiple knives and machetes and other melee weapons since ammo is limited along wiht somehting like a half put together rednecked (no pun intedended) basic spartan suit) it would simply involve something like a pintball mask leather wiht slminum inputs on some of the more open and easily bitable parts of the body. i would also set up a farming system on the roof seeing as walmart has an excess of seeds. as far as we know zombies cant live forever they have to have food and im sure sombody (especially in the navy since carriers and submarines can stay gone for years) we simply out live the zombie and wait for rescue. we would have an escape vehicle.*similar to dawn of the dead* wainting incase we absolutly need to leave. in that case i would need another section to type. ( i aslo have many different variations on what i would do in different circumstances) so just ask me any questions.
